Home church: Foothills Alliance Church, Calgary
Guillermo, born and raised in Durango, Mexico was the 12th out of 17 children. At 12 years old he accepted Christ as his Lord through a home Bible study done by missionaries from Canada. He and his family moved to Canada in 1985. He studied and learned English at Nipawin Bible Institute graduating 5 years later with a 3 year Mission Diploma. After 2 more years of study at Briercrest Bible College he graduated with a B.A. in Christian Ministry and Leadership. During his time of study, the Lord placed a desire for doing missions in Guillermo’s heart and he was able to do several short-term mission trips.
Mary-Ann was born in Calgary into a Christian home and accepted Christ as her personal Savior at the age of 5. At the 7 years old, the call to be a missionary became clear to her. Like Guillermo, Mary-Ann had a few opportunities to be involved in some short-term mission trips. Foothills Alliance Church has been her home church since 1985. She attended Rocky Mountain College for a few years and later continued her studies at Prairie Bible College.
Guillermo and Mary-Ann met in 1995 when they went on a one-year mission team with Venture Teams International to Tanzania and Kenya. In 2000, they got married and worked for 1 year in Banff, AB. After much prayer and council they decided to attend Prairie Bible Institute for Guillermo to become a pilot to do missionary aviation. Due to a lack of aviation jobs in Canada following graduation, they traveled to Africa looking for jobs for Guillermo to gain the flight hours that mission agencies require. 2005 and 2006 became years of wonderful cultural learning and growing of faith as they searched for work and saw God provide all they needed. Along with the flight hours, they developed many relationships and were very involved with the local church during this time.
Serving In Mission (SIM) accepted Guillermo and Mary-Ann as members in December 2004, pending the needed flight hours. Now that Guillermo’s aviation requirements have been met, they are planning to return to Zambia under SIM as long-term missionaries in June 2008. Once back in Zambia under SIM, Guillermo will be loaned to Flying Mission, a Botswana based mission aviation organization. Guillermo and Mary-Ann plan to be involved with the local church and hospitality. Also, Lord willing, they will be parents to 2 young children. Mary-Ann, as she is able, will most likely be working with the mission in administration and possibly teach English to some of the Zambian ladies. During the remaining months here in Canada they will be continuing to share their hearts for Zambia as they raise their prayer support team.
